Here are the first photos of the installed Shapiro family rink in New Jersey.  This is the first installation of a 32x48' Super-Glide "Mini Rink" with embedded hockey markings.  The colored lines are molded into the Super-Glide synthetic ice surface so they require no maintenance and will never wear away!

Global Synthetic Ice is proud to offer this incredible new development to families and hockey coaches worldwide.

The Next Big Thing

by Global Synthetic Ice 25. June 2010 11:05

Here's something you probably never thought you'd see: A mini-hockey rink (32' x 48') in someone's back yard, with appropriate Hockey Rink Markings, embedded right in the surface!

This week, Global Synthetic Ice installed the world's first fully marked backyard Super-Glide synthetic ice rink.  This rink belongs to the Shapiro family in New Jersey, and the installation was personally supervised by company president Perry Boskus.

We just received an email from the owner:

"Just a quick note to say THANK YOU for all of your help these past few days. The rink is AMAZING! We all LOVE it! The kids were out there until 4 pm yesterday, back out this morning and we have friends coming over to skate tonight. We are very, very excited about it and are so appreciative for everything you have done to help us with the process from start to finish. Thanks so much!

Thanks again and best wishes! We look forward to staying in touch.

Andy"

As soon at Perry returns from this trip to New England, we'll have photos, video and more information about this exciting new development in the world of synthetic ice hockey!

Yes, Singapore!  Yet another first for Global Synthetic Ice was the opening of a new Super-Glide synthetic ice rink, the first of its kind in Singapore.  Hosting this new synthetic ice rink is Stamford American International School (SAIS), a private American-style school in Lorong Chuan Singapore, serving children aged 2 and up.  The rink was built and is managed by the Singapore Ice Hockey Association (SIHA), the non-profit organization that runs the National Ice Hockey League of Singapore (NIHL).

The SAIS school is making use of the new synthetic ice rink for recreational activity, as well as teaching students to skate and play hockey.  The kids are very excited about the new rink and the school has plans for an afterschool "learn to skate" program.

SIHA built the synthetic ice rink out of necessity to give their Singapore hockey team a place to practice.  There are a very limited number of ice rinks available in Singapore, and their primary training facility closed in 2008.  This left them with no viable ice to train on.  Until this Super-Glide rink was completed, they had been training on concrete!  The estimated cost of a synthetic ice rink in Singapore is about 1/5 the cost of a traditional ice rink.

SIHA also hopes to use Super-Glide synthetic ice to generate interest in youth hockey to revitalize the sport in Singapore.  This rink was big news in Singapore recently, we felt that RedSports.sg had the most complete and insightful article if you want to read more.
