On day 22 of its journey across Canada to the Vancouver Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch Relay passed through the historic Halifax Citadel in Nova Scotia. A Super-Glide synthetic ice skating rink was placed inside the fort for the celebration!
Parks Canada, and the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame provided an up-close look at how ice sports were played over 100 years ago. The public was invited to try on a pair of Victorian-era ice skates and experience skating on Super-Glide, or even try their hand at scoring with a 19th century hockey stick! The disparity of vintage skating equipment with cutting edge synthetic ice technology was easily dismissed as skaters celebrated the Olympic Flame while skating on Super-Glide.
